We thought you may like to know the full meaning of the word ‘diet’ as it is one of the most used words in weight loss, so here we go!

Diet means the type of food that you eat daily. 

A diet is also a structured way of eating and drinking for health and weight control. The word ‘diet’ comes from the Latin word ‘diaeta’ which means ‘a way of living,’ food to be eaten.

What is the purpose of food?

Food is that which is eaten to sustain life, provide energy and promote the growth and repair of tissues. The word ‘food’ comes from the Old English word ‘foda’ meaning nourishment.

Faddy diets

Faddy and crash diets are an attempt to reduce weight quickly by eating very limited foods.  They can only be followed for a short while, before they are abandoned. Usually whatever is lost will quickly go back on, taking you back to square one.

A diet that doesn’t make you feel irritable or bad tempered

Your diet should be balanced to give you increased energy and well-being. Not only is it miserable for you to feel irritable and bad tempered but also miserable for those around you!
